Current Project: The Nest/Guest Room

My current project has been to
rearrange my Nest....the guest room.
We don't have many guests, so I have
made this room into my Nest, where I
do my "fun" things.

These are "before" pictures.

There really wasn't much room for
guests.  I am trying to lighten things.

This great old library table was my
parents, and will become my desk.

I would love to reach a point where
this bed does not always have STUFF
on top.

Things have been moved out.
Some will get painted and some will
go away, some will come back.

I will miss the large school teacher
desk.  It has served me well and
gives me much room to use.  But,
it also takes up much room!!

Next I will show the completed room!

Buttons for Kathy

My friend Kathy  is an avid collector of
buttons.  If you love buttons you must
check out her blog.  I told her I was washing some buttons and she asked me to do a post
about them.  So here is one on the red ones.

I don't really "collect" buttons.  I love red
anything so have acquired many red buttons.
These are the ordinary ones.

These are all shiny round buttons.

Brass is the middle, ducks, and round cloth
covered buttons.

Octagons and square buttons.

Pretty buttons.

Red with something added or just
a little extra added in.

My favorites.  Love the details
on these.

They are all kept in a jar.  If you knew
how many jars of things I have, well, it's
an obsession.

Kathy could tell you which buttons are
what kind.  I just sorted them by similarity
because that is the extent of my
button knowledge.  As I said before, if you
really like buttons, check out Kathy's blog.

Potting Shed Favorites

Now for my favorites in the shed.  If you have
followed along this far you know that
the shed is full of fun things.  These, that
follow, are things that really pull at my
heart.

This tray I have had for a long time.  It
now sits inside the cupboard.

The colors and the graphics are just great!!

The frame I have also had for a long time.
I finally found something to put in it so
I could hang it up.   The daffodil shelf is
a favorite for two reasons.  I love daffys and
the shelf is folk art.

Another piece of folk art that is just funny!!
When I see it, it makes me smile   :>)

This scrapbook is a favorite for a couple
of reasons.  The blue on the cover is one
of my favorite blues.  So bright!  And,
again, the graphics and colors are right
up my alley.

By now you might guess what I like about this
wall pocket.  Yes, that blue again.  Plus he
has the cutest face...as if he is saying
"what will you put in my pocket?"
He was made in Germany.

Even I am starting to see a trend here.
The parrot, love him for the colors and
he is folk art and he is a bird.  And the
pot in the wagon--------yes, the color!

And then the final group.  These all just
make me happy.  I love the stand that
the little book is on.  And how can I resist
such a precious little book?  The gnome pot
is unusual and definitely belongs in a
"potting" shed.  For years I have loved
these little hand painted vases.  I don't have
a collection of them but this one is sweet with its
curvy shape.

So, there you have it.  There are other
favorites in the shed, but it is difficult
for me to show them all.  It would take all
day!  Thanks for going on this journey with
me.  It has been fun and has made me
realize that with all that I have, I could part
with much of it and still have a full heart.

The Potting Shed Vignettes

I said I would show some of the
vignettes of the shed up close.
Here goes:

I really like this little metal carrier.  It has
a flat handle you can see on the top.  Here
I store  my metal baskets, funky, old tools,
and my jar of twine.

This little shelf is a new addition.
I put little and/or light things on it.  I
got a set of 7 dwarfs at an estate sale and
put the ones related to the garden here.

This "new to me" cabinet had the perfect
colors for the blue and yellow pots.  And
the blue Ball jars.  A dear friend sent me
the Future Farmer sign.

This is part of my small bottle collection.
I liked how it looks in the little wagon.  The
rickshaw is folk art, which I enjoy.

I've had this shelf for years.  When I redid
the shed, it stayed in the same place. It is
just a happy little corner with things on it,
hanging on it, and around it.

The little green  table/stool is not
new to me, but the bookcase is.  More
of my pots are displayed as well as  a
few of my many jars of "whatever". On
the bottom shelf is a sweet little basket
that I like and a green plastic glasses carrier
the I adore. Underneath are the seed pots.

This is above the large cabinet.  I have
two of those precious little floral lamps.
The die are set to my age.  I like all the
white together with the green.  And the
little gnome.

The next post will be some of my  my
favorites in the shed.  It is always a work in
progress.  Kind of like life.

The Potting Shed Round 3: The Reveal

Finally it is done!!  I am going to do
the "Reveal" in three posts.

The first will be the full view, second the
vignettes,  and third, my favorites in the shed.

Here we go......

This is where any real potting gets done.

When you first walk in the door this is
what you see on the far wall.  Hopefully
it makes one eager to see more.

Looking to the left is the work bench.  This is
also where I have most of my little pots,
and where I keep (out of sight) things that
are used in the yard.

Above the work bench is the loft or, as I
like to call it, the basket area!

The left side of the work bench.

The right side of the work bench.  Here you
will find part of my collection of metal
flower frogs. Back in the corner is a jar full.

Looking to the left. The wall didn't change
too much because I have my collection of
pot hangers that I really like.  And my
valance of watering cans.  The furniture
did change.

Looking to the left, and out the door.
I found the sweet little wicker desk and
chair earlier this year.  The bright green
chair used to be black.  I got the "put
glass in the window" from my mother.

Looking to the left.  The picture of
Mt. St. Helen's before she blew up stayed
where it was.  The cabinet is new to me
(and has more pots).  The cute little
yellow cubby was one I tried to sell
but nobody wanted it.  (Perhaps I priced
it too high because I really wanted to
keep it)

And this, as my husband teases me,
is a great place to curl up and read.
It faces the big window, but I also can look left and see out the door.  I am very happy with
how it turned out.  In the next post I will
show you some of the vignettes up close.

Thanks for stopping by.

The Potting Shed Round 2

Much progress has been made with
my precious little shed.

Here is what came out of the shed. All of
this is going away soon.
Minus the little blue top table.  That is
going in our guest room.

I was surprised at some of the things
I was willing to let go.  Things I
have enjoyed, but it seems they
have served their purpose and need
to move on to a new home.

The boxes, of course, are full of small things.

Then out comes what is left ( a lot)
and I clean the floor.  I was thrilled
when I found this piece of linoleum that
looks almost like hardwood.   It adds
a nice touch to the shed.

The one piece that was not removed for
the floor cleaning was a large wood
cabinet.  It is getting a little TLC here.

It was made from old wood and windows.
But I am going for a softer feel in here
now, so decided it needed a lift.

I like it much better now with the shelf lining.
It is brighter, softer, and things show up better.

Here we are getting down to the wire.  I have
added a few pieces........the shelves under the window, the cabinet in the right corner.  I am
almost ready for the full reveal.  The furniture
is rearranged, things are rearranged on the
walls, new things are added.  Stay tuned for
more.

The Potting Shed Round 1

The Potting Shed has always been changing.

Lately I am trying to get rid of things (hahaha)
and so the Potting Shed is getting a Make Over.

This would be the outside a few years ago.
This part hasn't changed much.

This is my little nest and is full of
all things garden and fun.  Oh, I forgot
to mention that the potting shed is not
used for potting.  That's done on the
potting bench outside.

This isn't even the whole thing,
but gives you an idea of the quantity of
"stuff" that lives here.

And this is the process of sorting
out what to get rid of and what to keep.
It has been very difficult because I
wouldn't have it if I didn't like/love it.

Everything is getting packed up so
I can move it all out and clean the floor.
Then it will all go back in and begin a
new chapter.  I will still have a lot
of "stuff".
