Friendship Friday

source

One recipe for friendship is the right
mixture of commonality and difference.
You've got to have enough in common
so that you understand each other and
enough difference so that there is some-
thing to exchange.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all

Here are a few images of our
Pinecone Cottage this Christmas

We had to keep things simple
because of our kitten.

Love this box I found at a thrift store.

This little church is from my childhood.

Little treasures.

Wonderful tissue paper and
my favorite Christmas wish,
given to me by a dear friend
many years ago.  She did the
calligraphy herself.  It is my
wish for all of you.

"May you never forget
what is worth remembering
or remember what is
best forgotten."
Old Irish toast

Be happy and safe and have
a wonderful Christmas.

Update on Making the Cut

Just a quick update on how the ferns look
after my last post about them being cut.
They always come back so bright and shiny, pretty!!

I don't know how to link back to a previous
post but you can look on the old posts for
Making the Cut to compare.

This last one wasn't in the first post
but it is one of my favorite parts of
our shade garden with ferns.  They
were all cut down, too.

Driving home

This time of year in the Northwest
the mountains are still covered in snow.
We are having unusually beautiful
weather and this is what I see on
my drive toward home

Mount St. Helen's

When I was a child we would go
to Mt. St. Helen's and camp.  We
would fish on the gorgeous Spirit Lake.
When we moved away I missed my
beautiful mountain.
After returning to the northwest as
an adult, I lived in Portland, OR. when
Mt. St. Helen's blew her top.  I saw my
lovely mountain explode and later I saw
the devastation.  But I still love her.  She
is an old friend, and as an old friend I
see her beauty and the joy she brings to me.

For those of you far away, here she is, all
dressed up in white.

Tree news

The man that I married likes to move
things around in our yard.  Sometimes it
is because they need to be moved and
sometimes because he just wants to move them.
A couple of days ago he needed to move
a tree from the back to front yard so it could
get more sun.

Originally he had a couple of friends to
help him do this.  But it poured that day.

So he decides he can do this by himself.

And I am watching him turn the tree from
side to side and cut and dig and then...

He uncovers this poor little guy who was
just trying to do whatever he was doing
underground.  I think he is a salamander?

I decided to look at the flowers  Our tulips
have just started to bloom.

I just love bulbs of any kind and hope to
plant more this fall.

Turns out the only help he needed was
a little bit from me to get the tree into
the wheelbarrow for the trip to
the front yard.  Fortunately it was
mostly a downhill ride!

And he did it!!  Now this paperbark maple
will be where it can get more sun and be
a much happier tree.  If the deer don't eat it.
